Manfred Kielnhofer wurde 1967 geboren und arbeitet als Maler, Bildhauer und Fotograf. Der gebürtige Österreicher ist zudem seit 2000 als freischaffender Künstler tätig. Unter seiner Leitung haben 1500 junge Menschen das weltweit größte Kindergemälde angefertigt.
Die Wächter der Zeit, mystische Skulpturen, die seit vielen Jahren durch Museen und Ausstellungen auf der Welt unterwegs sind, besuchen im Rahmen des diesjährigen Festival of Lights die Metropole Berlin. 5 leuchtende Skulpturen des Lichtkünstlers Manfred Kielnhofer begeben sich auf eine 12-Nächte-Tournee durch die Hauptstadt. Jeden Abend werden “5 Wächter der Zeit” an einem anderen prominenten Ort in Berlin Station machen. WÄCHTER DER ZEIT
Die Wächter der Zeit, mystische Skulpturen, die seit vielen Jahren durch Museen und Ausstellungen auf der Welt unterwegs sind, besuchen im Rahmen des diesjährigen FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS die Metropole Berlin. 5 leuchtende Skulpturen des Lichtkünstlers Manfred Kielnhofer begeben sich auf eine 12-Nächte andauernde Tournee durch die Hauptstadt. Jeden Abend machen “5 Wächter der Zeit” an einem anderen prominenten Ort in Berlin Station – als Hüter und Beobachter von Zeit und Raum. Diese werden vom Künstler selbst und einigen Fotografen begleitet, die diese “Welttournee” dokumentieren.

TIMEGUARDS
The „timeguards“ are five mystical sculptures who are travelling the worls’ museums and exhibitions. Exclusively for FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS they made their journey to the German capital. Each night they show up on a different spot in Berlin. This unique light project is created by Manfred Kielnhofer.

The constant struggle with concepts of space, sculptures and installations as well as the engagement of mysticism and primal religions led the Austrian artist to create “timeguards“. The first timeguard was built in 2006 and is reminiscent of a withdrawn monk. Kielnhofer likes to present his sculptures at exciting locations. They appear and disappear. You can never anticipate where they will show up next time, reminding us that we are never unobserved. Every one of our actions is seen by the guards and evaluated. They were already in existence a long time before humans populated the earth.

“Interlux Chair”,
designed and manufactured by Manfred Kielnhofer, Austria, 2002/ 2010, transparent and red fluorescent plexiglass, blue neon tubes, height 84 cm, width 88 cm, depth 90 cm . (DR) A unique piece out of a serie of similar chairs. Reminiscent of American minimalist artist Dan Flavin’s fluorescent light sculptures, this unique chair literally lights up the room. It is a composition of unique long neon lighting contained in transparent tubes placed horizontally.
